This simple plugin will allow Joomla! site administrators to enter source and destination URLs that will redirect users to pages you specify.  This allows you to send out a link that looks like http://example.com/downloads when actually the link should be http://example.com/index.php?option=com_content&id=48&ItemId=102.  Joomla! has various ways to do this through menu items, but this can be useful if you don't have mod_rewrite or search-engine-friendly (SEF) URLs enabled.

The configuration for this plugin is quite simple.  For example, the configuration line for the redirect that sends http://findross.com/jredirect to this article at http://findross.com/index.php?option=com_content&id=11&Itemid=13 looks like this:

jredirect|index.php?option=com_content&id=11&Itemid=13

Remember to separate different redirect entries by a new-line character (by pressing Enter) and URLs by a pipe ( | ).  In order to make sure that all URLs on your website get redirected, ensure that your 404 page is wrapped in Joomla!.  The simplest way to accomplish this is to add the following line to your .htaccess file on the root of your website:

ErrorDocument 404 /index.php

Note that /index.php can be any page within your Joomla! website; it should tell users that the page can't be found.  For more on custom 404 pages, Google has a pretty decent article here.

This software is released to you via the  GNU/GPL license in hopes that it will be useful.  Feedback is welcomed by emailing me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
